Homemade Cleaning Products
Please use common sense when using cleaning products and always test an area that won't be seen normally before doing the entire area.
The basic items you need to clean your home are:
*Baking Soda
*Vinegar
*Rubbing Alcohol
*Washing Soda (can be found near laundry detergent in most stores)
*Borax (also near the laundry section)
*Mild Dish Detergent
All-Purpose Spray Cleaner
1/2 tsp. washing soda
a dab of liquid soap
2 cups hot tap water
Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake until the washing soda has dissolved.
Apply and wipe off with a sponge or rag.
All Purpose Cleaner (Strong)
Mix in a sprayer bottle:
1 T clear, non-sudsing ammonia
1 T clear laundry detergent
2 cups water
Copper Cleaner
Ketchup. Just smear it onto your copper kettles and let sit for a few hours. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Furniture Polish
1/2 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 cup vinegar or fresh lemon juice
Mix the ingredients in a glass jar.
Dab a soft rag into the solution and wipe onto wood surfaces.
Cover the glass jar and store indefinitely.
Glass Cleaner
Mix in a sprayer bottle:
1 cup rubbing alcohol
1 cup water
1 tablespoon white vinegar
Silverware Cleaner
Put your silverware in an aluminum pan. Put about 1/4 cup of baking soda in a quart of water and simmer your fine silver gently and the tarnish will go. If you don't have an aluminum pan, use aluminum foil in a pan.
Silver and Silver Plated Items Cleaner
Put foil in the bottom of your sink. Add salt, baking soda and very hot water. Let them soak for several minutes. The tarnish will disappear off of your items.
Soft Paste Cleaner
Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with enough liquid dishsoap to make a paste. Apply with a sponge to countertops and tubs. Doesn't leave grit behind.
Spray and Go Shower Cleaner
Combine 3 parts of water to 1 part of bleach in an empty spray bottle. Add 1 Tbsp. white vinegar.
The vinegar will dissolve the soap deposits while the bleach will kill mildew and prevent it from forming again.
Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Add 1 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 Tablespoon of household ammonia to 2 quarts of water and pour it into the toilet. Let set for 30 minutes.
