*To get the most juice from citrus fruits, prick the peels several times with a fork, then microwave for a few seconds.

*Need to slice up some dried fruit but hate the sticky mess?  Toss the fruit into the freezer for about 20 minutes first.  The firm pieces will be easy to slice through and they won't stick to your knife and hands.

*Apples, pears and potatoes dropped in cold, lightly salted water as they are peeled will retain their color.

*When preparing avocados, to avoid the browning of avocado flesh when exposed to air, immediately place the peeled fruit in lemon juice until ready for use.

*For a cool refreshing treat, cut a banana into chunks and put in the freezer. Take out in a couple of hours and enjoy.

*When baking potatoes, pierce with a fork to allow the steam to escape and do not wrap them in foil as this will give them a steamed texture.
Fruit and Veggie Tips
*Liven up slightly wilted vegetables by soaking them in cold water and vinegar.

*Add a little bit to the water when poaching eggs to help them stay better formed.

*Tenderize meat by adding it to marinades or slow cooking dishes.

*When boiling or steaming cauliflower and other veggies, add some to the water to help preserve their color, reduce gassiness and improve their taste.

*Rub it on your hands to remove onion odors.

*Add a drop to your frosting to keep it from sugaring.

*To keep your gelatin molds from sagging in the summer, add 1 tsp. of vinegar per box used.

*Keep boiling eggs from cracking by adding a Tbsp. of vinegar to the water.

*To eliminate cabbage smell from your home while boiling it, add vinegar to the water.

*Reduce fishy odors by rubbing fish down with white vinegar before scaling it.

Cooking Tips
*Need to separate an egg but don't have an egg separator?  No problem.  Just grab a funnel and crack your eggs into it.  The whites will slip through while the yolks will stay in the funnel's top area.

*Avoid boiling eggs - it makes them tough and rubbery.  Just cover them with water, bring just to the boiling point, and turn off the heat.  Let stand, covered, for about 15 minutes.

*Simple test to identify the rotten eggs. Take water in a bowl and place the egg. Rotten egg floats.
*When using a double boiler, place a couple of your kids' glass marbles in the bottom one.  When the water evaporates, the marbles will rattle around, alerting you to the need to add some more water.
