Note - NEVER mix chlorine bleach with ammonia - VERY DANGEROUS

Bathtub Stains - make a paste of cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide.  Use an old toothbrush to rub it in and then rinse well.

Black Marks on Floors - use pencil erasers to remove

Candles - clean with a cotton cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol

Carpet Freshener - 3/4 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup frangranced talcum powder and 2 Tbsp. cornstarch.  Sprinkle on dry carpet, wait 10 - 15 minutes and vacuum it up.

Carpet Spot Remover - 1/2 cup mild dishwashing soap and 2 cups of boiling water, applied with a sponge

Cobwebs - use a yardstick or the handle of your broom, with an old sock on the end, to reach up and remove them

Combs and Brushes - Fill your bathroom sink with hot water and add 1 tsp. of dishsoap.  Let soak for 15 minutes.  Use the combs to clean the brushes.  Rinse.

Cutting Boards - Experts recommend sanitizing cutting boards after using them by putting them through the dishwasher or by rinsing them in a solution of 1 tsp. of chlorine bleach to 1 quart of water.

Dishwasher Smells
Fill the soap dispenser wtih white vinegar and run the empty dishwasher through a short cycle.

Fixtures - to clean stainless steel, enamel, porcelain, ceramic or fiberglass fixtures, scrub with 2 Tbsp. baking soda dissolved into 1 quart of water.

Grease Clogged Drains -  pour 1 cup each of baking soda and salt into your drain and follow it with a generous amount of boiling water.

Instant Spot Remover - pour abit of club soda onto the stain, wait 1 to 2 minutes, then blot with a sponge or white cloth.

Laundry

White Vinegar Tips
-Before washing a mustard stain, dab with white vinegar.
-Attack spaghetti, barbecue, or ketchup stains with a white distilled vinegar and water solution.
-Remove perspiration odor and stains on clothing, as well as those left by deodorants, by spraying full-strength white distilled vinegar on underarm and collar areas before tossing them into the washing machine.
-Forgot that you left wet laundry in the machine and it now smells moldy? Pour a few cups of white distilled vinegar in the machine and wash the clothes in hot water. Then run a normal cycle with detergent.
-Bring out bright colors by adding 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle.
-Get rid of the tiny holes left along the hemline when you take out the hem of any garment by moistening a cloth with white distilled vinegar, placing it under the fabric and ironing.

Leather Shoes - If they get wet, crumple up newspaper to soak up the water and help reshape them.  Air-dry.  DON'T put them into the dryer.

Mildew Remover - dilute 3/4 cup of chlorine bleach into a gallon of water.  Scrub onto tiles, grout, shower curtains and stalls.  Rinse.

Mini-Blinds - To dust your mini-blinds, easily and quickly, pick up a soft bristled paint brush at your local dollar store.

Non Self-Cleaning Ovens - place 1/2 cup of full strength ammonia into the oven and close the door.  Let sit overnight.  This will soften the grime so you can easily wipe it out in the morning.

Patent Leather Shoes
Looking worn and dull?  Rub an unbeaten egg white onto the leather with a clean cloth.  Let dry, then buff.  The natural protein in the egg will moisturize the material while tightening it.  It will also add a glossy finish.

Pet Urine- dab up as much as possible with an old towel.  Wash with soapy dish soap water, and then rinse with 1/2 cup vinegar mixed into a quart of warm water.  Place dry, clean cloths over the spot and put a weight on top.  Let sit to absorb for several hours.  Remove cloths, fluff the carpet and allow to dry.

Rust/Hard Water Stains - apply full strength lemon juice or vinegar to the stain.  Leave until it disappears and rinse. 

Soap Scum - Make a thick paste of baking soda and water and scrub with a damp sponge.

Stinky Shoes - Put them into a plastic ziploc bag after sprinkling them with baking soda.  Seal and toss them into the freezer overnight.  The cold will kill the bacteria that is causing the odor and the baking soda will absorb and of the remaining odors.

Telephone - clean with a cotton cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol

Toilet Bowl - pour 1/4 cup chlorine bleach into the bowl and let sit, swish with toilet brush.

Under the Frig - Use a yardstick with a sock fixed on the end, held in place with a rubber band to swipe under and remove the dust

Water Rings - remove from wood furniture with a mixture of toothpaste and baking soda, using a damp sponge.

Wax Paper
-Keep dirt from sticking to your car's antenna and get better reception by rubbing it with the wax paper.
-Slide a sheet along closet rods to allow hangers to slide easier.
-Keep a small piece under your ice cube trays in the freezer to prevent them for sticking to the freezer shelf and each other.

White Vinegar
-To shine chrome sink fixtures that have a lime buildup, use a paste made of 2 tablespoons salt and 1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar.

-Clean the microwave by mixing 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar and 1/2 cup water in a microwave-safe bowl. Bring it to a rolling boil inside the microwave. Baked-on food will be loosened, and odors will disappear. Wipe clean.
-Cut the grime on the top of the refrigerator with a paper towel or cloth and full-strength white distilled vinegar.
-Get rid of lime deposits in a tea kettle by adding 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the water and letting it sit overnight. If more drastic action is needed, boil full-strength white distilled vinegar in the kettle a few minutes, let cool and rinse with plain water.
-Remove mineral deposits from coffee makers with white distilled vinegar. Fill the water reservoir with 1 cup or more of white distilled vinegar and run it through a whole cycle. Run it once or twice more with plain water to rinse clean. (Check the owners’ manual first.)
-Remove odors from a lunch box by placing inside a slice of bread that has been soaked in white distilled vinegar. Leave overnight.

-Get rid of fruit flies by setting out a small dish of undiluted white distilled vinegar.
-Clean grout by letting full-strength white distilled vinegar sit on it for a few minutes and scrubbing it with an old toothbrush.
-Some carpet stains can be removed with a paste of 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar and 1/4 cup salt or baking soda. Rub into the carpet stain and let dry. Vacuum up the residue the next day. (Always test on an out-of-sight part of the carpet first).
-Never use white distilled vinegar on marble. The acid can damage the surface.

Woodwork - to clean, mix 2 Tbsp. veggie oil, 4 Tbsp. white vinegar and 1 quart of warm water.  Use one soft cloth to apply and another to dry.
